Havelock Island Trip

Havelock Island was previously named after a British general, Sir Henry Havelock, who served in India.In December 2018, it was renamed, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as Swaraj Island as a tribute to Subhas Chandra Bose.

Private and government ferries operate everyday between Port Blair and Havelock as well as Neil and Havelock.

Havelock is located about 65 Km from the Port Blair, and is a completely detached island which means, there are no connecting roads and bridges to it from any other island. Despite this, there are two ways you can reach this tropical paradise in less than 2/2.5 hours.

There are 2 ways in which you can reach the island:

  1. Government Ferry.
  2. Cruise/Speed Boats.
  3. Seaplane. (Discontinued)

Government Ferry:

Also known as the lifeline of Andaman Islands, the Government Ferry is readily available way to the reach the Havelock Islands. Although, Govt. Ferries are cheaper than private Ferries, locals are given the first preference for bookings and the booking has to be made 3 days before the departure. Moreover, the tickets have to be booked from the STARS office on the respective island by standing in a long queue and are only provided until all seats are filled out.

All Government ferries leave from the Phoenix Bay Jetty and reach Havelock in under 2.5 hours, the one which goes via Neil Island will take around 4 hours to reach there.

If you are choosing government ferries you will have the option to walk outside your cabin and enjoy the fresh breeze of air and blue sea around you.

Cruise/ Private Ferry:
